2016 Kunitomi/Suzuki Scholarship – Rece Kunisaki
Rece Kunisaki is the son of Bruce and Joyce Kunisaki, and big brother to his 14-year-old sister Elyce. He is currently a senior at San Marino High School maintaining a high GPA. He played on the high school golf team and was a starter and captain of the Basketball team, earning All-Tournament and 1st team high school basketball honors. He has been a member of the Monterey Park Mustangs since he was in Kindergarten in 2002. In addition to playing on the Mustangs Titans for all these years, Rece played on the Yonsei Basketball Team 19. He hopes to continue his education at one of the University of California schools.
When he is not playing basketball he enjoys dancing in the annual “Dancetra” production, skiing, snowboarding, hiking and biking in the mountains and exploring the sea as a certified SCUBA diver.
Although Rece enjoys spending time with his family and friends, he also finds time to participate in various clubs and associations. Whenever possible, Rece plans to continue to give back to the community in which has given him so many opportunities. In his free time, he volunteers with the Mustangs, CYC and the community as he enjoys working with the youth, watching them grow and improve in basketball, the sport he loves. Other community volunteer work that he has participated in includes SMCAA (San Marino Community Athletic Association), Go for Broke, Keiro, A3M (Asian for Miracle Marrow Matches), Walk the Farm, and Pasadena Union Station Outreach Program.
